Rites Conducted For Mary Oleson, 81

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 6, 1957, at 2:00 p.m. from the First Lutheran church in Dows (Iowa) for Mary Oleson, 81, who passed away at Hampton (Iowa) on Wednesday, September 4, (1957). Rev. A. J. Tolo, pastor of the church, conducted the service and interment rites and the Rev. Raymond Roloff of Hartley, Iowa formerly of the Morgan community, brought a greeting. Music was furnished by Mrs. Orien Alverson, Mrs. Hector Anderson, and Mrs. Harley Gardalen, organist. Serving as pallbearers were Donald Worden, Donald Hackbarth, Sterl McCollough , Harvey Coburn, Verlyn Hackbarth and Bud Korth. Interment was held at Fairview cemetery.

Mary Rasmussen Oleson, daughter of Andrew and Sophia Rasmussen, was born in Albia, Iowa on November 28, 1875, and died at Hampton, Iowa, on September 4, 1957, at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 6 days. The family moved to Franklin County in 1876 where her parents homesteaded on a farm in Morgan township. She was united in marriage to Lars Oleson on October 28, 1896, residing on this same farm until she moved to Dows in 1947.

Mrs. Oleson is survived by her four children, Lawrence, Buenetta (Mrs. H. B. Vanderlip), LuVerne, and Melba (Mrs. Harold Ryan) all living in or near Dows, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Oleson of Dows. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lars Oleson, who died August 1, 1936. also two sisters, Clara and Hannah and one Brother, Peter.

Mrs. Oleson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, later associated with the Morgan Methodist church. She took an active part in social and rural life of the community, her home was not only open to her family but to the teachers and children from the school across the road. Everyone was greeted by her with a smile and a pleasant word and it can truthfully be said that she had no enemies.
