Final Rites Held for Ole L. Oleson
Aged Pioneer Died at His Home In Oakland Wednesday After Brief Illness

The death of Ole L. Oleson marks the passing of one more of the pioneers of Dows. Fifty-six years of his life he spent farming in Oakland township earning for himself the reputation of a quiet industrious, fair-minded neighbor, and a loving husband and father.

Ole L. Oleson was born near Huskega?, Wis., October 15, 1841. He was married to Anna Marie Hanson at Wiota, Wis., on December 24, 1866. for eight years they lived in that vicinity and in 1872 with their three children, they came by covered wagon to Iowa settling in Oakland township, Franklin county, where they made their permanent residence. Thirteen children were born to them, Laura, dying in infancy, and Nellie Oleson Donaldson dying in 1922. His wife preceded him in death, passing away in February 1928. There are left to mourn his passing eleven children, six of them sons: Ole A., of Rhame, N.D., Lars, Oscar, Henry, Lewis and Andrew, all of Dows, and five daughters, Mrs. J.C. Jacobson and Mrs. Amanda Davis, both of Dows, Mrs. L.L. Beinhauer, of Des Moines, Mrs. I.D. Thue, of Stanton, N.D., and Mrs. Lloyd Carpenter, of Webster, S. D. He leaves also twenty-eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

For eighty-eight years Ole L. Oleson lived an active life, unassuming, straightforward, kindly. He had not been in the best of health for some time, and Sunday suffered an attack of flue from which he did not recover. He died Wednesday night, July 16, 1930 at the age of eighty-eight years and nine months. The funeral services were held in Otisville church Saturday afternoon at two o’clock and were in charge of the Rev. Edward Duea. Interment was made in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the church.
