CLANCY, ANDERSON, SAXTON, NUGENT

Merton G. Clancy, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa died at 6:45 pm on Friday, April 28, 2000, at Morning Sun Care Center. He was born on July 16, 1913, at Hardy, Iowa to Schyler C. and Lela M. Saxton Clancy. On June 2, 1940 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he married Eve Nugent, who survives. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State University, Ames for three years. He was a farm implement salesman most of his life, having worked for Oliver and Ford Tractor Companies and the Paper Machine Co., for several years. During World War II he helped build the ALCON Highway. He owned and operated the Ford Tractor dealership in Mt. Pleasant for 10 years and worked for Mt. Pleasant Ford Tractor another 12 years. He was a member of the Congregational Church at Charles City, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife at Morning Sun Care Center; one son, Donald M. Clancy of Apple Valley, Minn; one daughter, Sue (Mrs. Dean) Anderson of Morning Sun; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marion Clancy. Open visitation was Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. There was no family visitation.
Celebration of his life was at 10:30 am Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at the funeral home. Interment was in Forst Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Lions Eye Bank at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
