Old Resident Buried Here Saturday, April 10

Carl Voigt, well known and highly respected citizen of Whittemore passed away at his home Wednesday afternoon, April 7. Mr. Voigt had not been in the best of health lately. His death came as a shock to the people of this community. Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt was born in Carnitz, Pomerania, Germany on the 24th of October, 1860. In early infancy the Rev. Nieman baptized him in the name of the Triune God. After receiving instructions in the doctrines of Christianity he was confirmed by the same pastor the 29 day of September 1874. Seven years later, the 8th day of December 1881, he was united in holy wedlock to Bertha Seegebarth, Rev. Buth solemnizing the marriage. In 1887 he and his family came to America making their home north of Whittemore. Nine years later he moved to his farm four and one-half miles south and two miles east of Whittemore. In 1924 he and his good wife moved to town. After but a few months of retirement, the Lord in His unsearchable wisdom, bereft him of his beloved partner. Since then his youngest daughter, Ella, made her home with him. On the 31st of March, Mr. Voigt was stricken with influenza. Though no alarm was felt because of his illness, his condition grew worse. On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 7, the Lord called him to Himself at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 14 days. He leaves to mourn his death five sons and six daughters, Otto of Eagle Grove, Carl of Osage, Ewald of Algona, Herman of Whittemore and Archie of Whittemore; Mrs. Ed Hansen, Algona, Mrs. Wm. Schwanke, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Reinhold Ostwald, Whittemore, Mrs. Arnold Wagner, Whittemore, Mrs. Art Mather, Rolfe and Ella, at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Gustav Mindemann, five son in laws; three daughter in laws, 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Those from out of town here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. William Schwanke, Cedar Falls; Otto Voigt of Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Voigt Jr. and son, Buddy, of Osage. Mr. and Mrs. Art Mather and daughter, and Jack Johnson of Rolfe; Ewald Voigt and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hansen and son, Wade, and daughters, Laura and Irene, of Algona; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilkens of Clarksville; Mr. and Mrs. Will Dreyer, Mrs. John Seegebarth, and sons Louis and Erick, and daughters, Martha and Lydia; and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Laabs of Lone Rock; and Otto Laabs of Algona.
