Lyle E. (Gundy) Gunderson of San Antonio, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the age of 85. He was born in Eagle Grove, IA to Magnus and Eleanor (Doyen) Gunderson. After graduating from Norway High School in 1937, he attained a B.S. in 1941 from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. During his high school and college years, Lyle worked at Benton County Savings Bank. In 1942, he was called to active duty in the Army Air Corps and achieved the rank of Major after serving in England, France and Germany. Following his military life, he was employed with Associated Seed Growers in New Haven, CT and San Antonio TX. During the 1950's Lyle was an Examiner for the Texas State Banking Department and later organized Temple Savings & Loan in Temple, TX. In 1969, he became Executive Vice President of First Federal Savings & Loan in San Antonio, Texas and retired as President in 1982. He later served on the St. Luke's Lutheran Hospital Board as Director, Vice President, and President, and also served on the Board of Directors of St. Luke's Lutheran Healthcare Ministries. Lyle continued to be active in civic organizations and served on the boards of Lutheran Foundation of Southwest, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Rotary Club, Adult Education Program, Parks Commission, Child Care & Guidance, and YMCA. He always enjoyed the Texas coast and was active in the S. A. Power Squadron. Lyle and his wife of 42 years (Rubiedick Yarborough, deceased) were members of Concordia Lutheran Church of San Antonio. He and his wife Janet, who married in 1991, became members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Boerne, TX. Lyle is survived by Janet; a son, Robert and wife, Mary; a daughter, Chris Robertson and husband, Jerry; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Gerald and wife, Verlene of Wausa, NE, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 o'clock at Porter Loring North. SERVICE WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16, 2005 1:00 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Pastor Henry Schulte and Pastor David Ebs officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vernon Benson, Dr. Lon Smith and the staff of CTRC for the care and personal attention they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 314 East Rosewood, Boerne, TX 78015 or VITAS Hospice, 5430 Fredericksburg Road, Ste. 200, San Antonio, TX 78229 Arrangements with: Porter Loring Mortuary North.
