Robert J. Mann, 69, of Springville, New York, a retired heavy-equipment operator and past president and secretary of Chaffee Sardinia Fire Company, died Wednesday (Jan. 24, 2001) in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville, after a long illness. He was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and grew up in West Seneca. He served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. Mann was employed as operating engineer for David Ogiony Construction Co. in Buffalo until his retirement in 1993. Before moving to Springville in 1972, he lived in West Seneca, where he served as chief and board member of Vigilant Fire Company and was a commissioner of Fire District 6. He was a past member of the New York State Fire Chiefs and West Seneca Fire Chiefs associations and was a life member of the Erie County Fire Chiefs and Southwestern Firemen's associations. In 1993, Vigilant Fire Company presented him the Ed Keller Award for his services to the volunteer fire company and community.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Ruth E. Heusinger; a daughter, Barbra of Springville; a son, Robert E. of Sardinia; and three grandchildren.Private services will be scheduled.
