ROBERT T. KIST - RETIRED REAL ESTATE CONSULTANT
Robert T. Kist, a retired real estate consultant, insurance executive and civic leader, died Wednesday (April 19, 2000) at McKnight Extended Care Facility of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 80 and had lived in Clayton, Missouri. Mr. Kist worked in the insurance and real estate industries for more than 50 years. He retired in 1993 as a consultant to Solon Gershman Inc., a real estate firm. From 1953 to 1982, he was regional vice president of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. Mr. Kist, who began his career in real estate in St. Louis, was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Washington University and served in the Army Air Forces in World War II. He was a member of the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America and a recipient of its Silver Beaver Award. He also served on the board of directors of St. Luke's Hospital, Goodwill Industries, Clayton Mercantile Bank, Junior Achievement and Downtown St. Louis. He was a former chairman of the National Research & Education Trust Fund, a former member of the governing council of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and a former vice chairman and board member of the Regional Commerce and Growth Association. He was a former trustee of the Non-Uniformed Employees Retirement Fund in Clayton and of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Association. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gerber Chapel, 23 West Lockwood Avenue, Webster Groves. The body will be cremated.

Among the survivors are a daughter, Cheryl Ross of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Scott Kist of Clayton; two brothers, John Kist of Downers Grove, Ill., and Dr. Richard Kist of Clinton, Iowa; a sister, Cheryl Dore of Chicago; and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
