While attending the University of Minnesota she met Donald L. Davenport and they were married on June 23, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1996. After living in the Minneapolis are for four years, Esther and Don moved to Clearfield, where she has lived for the past 61 years. Esther came from a very musical family and became quite accomplished as a violinist at a young age and gave violin lessons in the early years of her marriage. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics and used that education in the management of her home throughout her life. She worked in the Davis county Library System as a librarian at the Clearfield Branch Library. She was active in the Clearfield Community Church and taught Sunday School when her children were young.

She is survived by her children, D. Alan (Beverly), Beltsville, MD; Robert G. (Mary) Hemlock, NY; John W. (Renata), Loma, CO; and Thomas S.M. (Ruth Ann), and Mary Ethel Van Dyke (Bill), both of Layton. She has 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. Remembering birthdays and special occasions of her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children was a very important and significant part of Esther's life. She was happiest when taking an active part in the lives of her family, wherever they lived. She also has one living brother, Stanley E. Markey, of Minneapolis, MN.

The family extends thanks to Cindy, Dennis, Karen, Dr. James Rees, close neighbors, neighborhood children (cracker kids), the Clearfield Community Church and the Clearfield 1st Ward whose combined efforts contributed to Esther's comfort, well being, and peace of mind in the last years of her life.
