Mabel Ardell Evans Gregg, 79, of Cathedral City, California succumbed to MERCA Staph infection, complicated by Pneumonia and died of respiratory failure on May 20, 2005 at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs, CA. She was born on June 20, 1925 to Marion and Ruby Evans of Popejoy Iowa. Mabel was raised on the family farm just south of Popejoy with five brothers and sisters. She graduated from Hamilton Business College in 1945, and worked as an executive bookkeeper for various companies spanning over 40 years. On January 12, 1950 she married Delmyr C. Gregg of Slater Iowa. She had three children, Sherri Lynn who died in infancy, Daniel Curtis who passed from cancer in 2003, and Roger Edward. Her life was full and she enjoyed bowling, golf, church, and was very active with her husband in the American Legion and V.F.W. In 1981 she divorced her husband. Mabel had lived in Willmar, Pipestone, Windom, & Mankato MN; Denver CO; Mason City, IA; St. Louis, MO, Santa Rosa, & finally Cathedral City, CA. She made true friends wherever she went and was a very fun loving lady. Mabel celebrated 24 years of continuous sobriety in 2004. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her son, Roger E. Gregg and his partner David McCammon of Palm Springs, CA. Sister, Marjorie and Gary Echelberger, Iowa Falls, IA; Brothers, Burl of Hot Springs, AK; Glen of Alden, IA; Myron of Alden, IA & Sister in law Louise of West Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by two of her children, her husband, her parents, and two brothers Bob and Merle.
Memorial Services will be held at the Popejoy United Methodist Church on Saturday June 25, 2005 at 5 p.m. with Pastor Martha Bennett officiating. Private inurnment will be at the Dows Cemetery. The family requests all memorials be sent to 210 Lei Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92264 to help defray costs and a tribute.
