Dean W. Stephens, 49, died Friday (March 26, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Iowa, with the Rev. Ellen G. Brantley officiating and the Rev. Fred Lewis of the United Methodist Church of Clear Lake assisting. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Dean William Stephens was born on Aug. 29, 1949, in Goldfield, to Don M. and Ilys (Griffith) Stephens. He attended grade school and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1967. Dean served in the military as a Marine from 1967 to 1969. He was united in marriage with Karren Sheets on March 20, 1971, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He attended Dunwoody Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn. Dean was employed in the heating and air conditioning field for 15 years in Ames. The past nine years, he has been employed as the second-year Climate Control instructor at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. He was very active in many committees and programs at NIACC and will be missed by faculty and students. Dean enjoyed reading, the computer, genealogy, flowers, nature, bird watching and playing with his grandson. He loved his family and greatly enjoyed his friends. Dean was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake and the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield.

Dean is survived by his wife, Karren; two daughters, Heather and Genevieve of Clear Lake; one grandson, Jason; four brothers, Dan and his wife, Eleanor, of Slater, Iowa, Don Ray of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Dennis and his wife, Beverly, of Goldfield, and Dale of Goldfield; two sisters, Neola (Nicky) Kvale and her husband, Jim, of Goldfield, and Nancy Comstock and her husband, Roger, of Hudson, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Blaine.
