September 7, 1996Lucille Nelson, 74, of Albert Lea, MN formerly of Britt, Iowa, died Friday (Sept. 6, 1996) at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt, Iowa, with the Rev. George Marin officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, 178 First Ave. S.W., Britt, Iowa.
Lucille Amelia Nelson, the daughter of Eilert and Edith Theresa (Taylor) Sandvig, was born Aug. 28, 1922, at Havelock, Iowa. At an early age, she moved with her family to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she attended and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. On Jan. 13, 1940, she married Marshall Nelson in Chicago, Ill. They made their home in Chicago until her husband graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. They then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and later New Hampton, Iowa, until her husband served his country in India during World War II. During this time, Lucille lived and worked in Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1946, they moved to Britt, Iowa, where she worked as a receptionist at her husband's office. After Marshall passed away in 1984, Lucille moved to California to be near her daughter. In 1992, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, where she passed away at the age of 74. Lucille enjoyed her family especially being a mother and grandmother. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxilliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lou Egli and her husband, Marlon, of Albert Lea; three grandchildren, Jamie Foy and his wife, Debra, of Mason City, Iowa; Brent Foy of St. Paul, and Jonie Blankenship and her husband, Todd, of Leland, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren, Crystal Foy, Travis Foy, Shawn Foy, Matthew Foy, Michael Foy and Alyssa Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Marshall Clayton Nelson on March 10, 1984; her father, Eilert Sandvig, on May 30, 1942; and her mother, Edith Sandvig, on May 20, 1982.
