Fred E. "Bud" Weber Sr. 82, passed away quietly Feb. 2, 2003, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church in Marion by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; a son, Fred Jr. and wife Judy; a daughter Mary Weber of Marion; six grandchildren, Wesley and Erin Weber, Brian Todd, Kevin Todd and wife Janice, Eric Todd and Jay Diers; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Amy, Ashley and Abby Todd; and two sisters, Ruth Crye of Ladysmith, Wis., and Lorraine Washburn of Arizona.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; two sisters; and a grandson, McKeon Weber.

Fred was born April 16, 1920, on a farm near Dows, Iowa, to Frederick Gottlieb Weber and Hattie Chipman Weber. Fred moved to the Cedar Rapids area as a teenager. He married Dorothy Ruth Ludlow on Aug. 8, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. As a young man Fred worked at Penick & Ford and LaPlant-Choate. Fred served with the 11th Airborne in the Pacific during World War II. Shortly after his return from military service Fred bought into the Arp Paint Store. In 1950, Fred bought out his partners and changed the name of the store to Weber Paint & Glass. Fred was a member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Marion Host Lions Club and American Legion Post 298 of Marion. He was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church of Marion, where he served as an elder. Fred was an avid golfer enjoying many rounds spent with fellow members of the Retired Mens Golf Association. Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. All those who knew him will miss him. Memorials may be made in memory of Fred to First Presbyterian Church, 802 12th St., Marion, IA 52302.
