Eldo Nichols, 93, of Clarion, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at the USA Health Care Center, Clarion. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 19th at the First Lutheran Church, Clarion. Pastor Gary Boen officiated at the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Eldo Nichols was born on January 27, 1913 in Clarion, the son of Irvin and Sophia (Sinn) Nichols. He graduated from the Clarion High School in 1931 and remained in the Clarion area his whole life, engaging in farming. Eldo married Josephine Anderson on February 1, 1940, in Missouri. He first farmed east of Clarion, then he moved to a farm near Galt before moving back to a farm east of Clarion where he farmed from 1950 until 1980, when he retired from farming and moved into Clarion. During his retirement he continued to have a big garden, several apple trees and honeybees to provide honey, fruit and vegetables for his family and members of the community. Eldo was an avid hunter, loved to read and tell stories.
Eldo is survived by his wife, Josephine of Clarion; three daughters, Joan Lomas and husband, Cliff of Olney, Illinois, Beth Schultz and husband, Paul of Clarion and Jean Ridenour and husband, Jim of Clarion; three sons, Nick Nichols and wife, Elaine of Clarion, Willard Nichols and wife, Carolyn of Pensacola, Florida and Major Steve Nichols and wife, Major Macrina Nichols, both currently stationed overseas; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert; three sisters, Elnora, Estella and Dorothy; and one son, Keith Nichols.
