Charles "Chuck" F. Cole, 63, of Belmond, died on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 26, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond. Rev. Lowell H. Halvorson officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Full military honors were provided by the Belmond Area Military Funeral Unit following the service at the Belmond Cemetery.

Charles "Chuck" F. Cole was born on June 1, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of James and Frances (Nichols) Cole and graduated from high school in Minneapolis before entering the US Air Force. During his two tours in Viet Nam, he became a POW for a short time. Upon returning to the States, he married Betty Lauden of Belmond in December 1966. After 22 years of service in the Air Force, he retired in Sacramento, California. In 1990, the family returned to Belmond. They later purchased the C & G Motel from Edith Hill and then opened the CBJ's Auto Wash. They bought a home on Lake Cornelia where he enjoyed fishing on his pontoon boat. He loved to watch wildlife and play cards during the winter months. He also loved spending time with his two grandsons. After their health started to decline, they moved back to Belmond.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Tammy Gladue and husband, Mitch of Clarion; two sons, John Cole and wife, Lisa of Belmond and James Cole of Belmond; two grandsons; a brother, Daniel Cole of Forest Lake, Minnesota; four sisters-in-law, Vallie Cole of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Frances Cole of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rosie Gerdes of Klemme and Wilma Lindsay and husband, Marvin of Swaledale; numerous nieces and nephews and many who called him "Papa". He was preceded in death by his parents: four brothers, Joe, Ralph, Myron (Bud) and James; two sisters, Ida Mitchell and Irene Shores; one brother-in-law, George Gerdes; and two nephews and one niece.
