Audrey I. Iverson, 93, of Dows, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006, at her home. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 16, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. Rev. William Straka officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service. Interment was in the Alden Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Audrey lone Sowl was born on June 24, 1912 in Popejoy, the daughter of Raymond R. and Edith E. Baker Sowl. She attended public school in Popejoy and graduated in 1930. She furthered her education at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, where she obtained an R.N. degree in 1935. After her graduation, Audrey worked at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Audrey was married to Henry J. "Hank" Iverson Jr. on September 1, 1938, in Northwood. The couple made their home north of Dows where Hank farmed and Audrey worked at Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls. Hank and Audrey moved to the farm they bought south of Dows in 1941. When Hank retired from farming in 1975, they moved to their acreage south of Dows. Audrey moved to a home in Dows after Hank's death in 2003. Audrey was active in the First Lutheran Church, where she gave of herself generously, acting as historian for the Ladies' Aid group and maintaining its scrapbook for many years. She was also a member of the Liberty Club. Sewing, quilting and canning were among the activities Audrey enjoyed.
Audrey is survived by four nephews, Roger Iverson of Dows, Senator Stewart Iverson Jr. and wife, Vicki of Clarion, Paul Iverson and wife, Judy of Lake City and John Iverson of Florida; four nieces; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; three great-great-nephews; and four great-great nieces. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband; and parents.
