Verle Arlene Bowman, 82, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2005, in Brighton, Colorado. Verle's final resting place will be in Ramona, Kansas alongside her husband, Richard. Her request that no memorial service be held will be honored. Verle was born December 19, 1922, in Clarion, the daughter of Earl and Doris Pletcher. She grew up on a farm near Clarion and loved helping her dad with the farm work, milking cows and working in the fields. Verle served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, being stationed in Florida. She drove supply trucks across the treacherous Tamiami Trail (Highway 41) between Tampa and Miami. She married Richard E. Bowman on August 29, 1945 in Webster City. Their early years together were spent in Austin, Minnesota, moving back to Iowa in the early 1950's. In 1959 they moved to Colorado. Having previously worked at Pan-O-Gold Bakery in Fort Dodge, Verle found work at Keebler, (formerly Bowman Biscuit Company) in Denver. She also managed Pet City and other pet stores in the Denver area. Verle and Richard lived in Denver until their retirement. They moved to Ramona, Kansas in 1985. Richard, Verle's husband of 52 years, passed away in 1997.

Verle is survived by three sons, Douglas Bowman of Morrill, Nebraska, Dennis Bowman of the sailing vessel Yemanja and Dale Bowman of Richland, Washington; two daughters, Julie Calvert of Surprise, Arizona and Roxanna Moore of Canton, Kansas; two sisters, Audrey Knutson of Colorado and Donna Long of Arizona: one brother, Ronald Pletcher of Montana; 16 grandchildren: and 25 great-grandchildren.
