Ruth D. Suntken, 85, died Friday, December 28, 2001 at the Belmond Medical Center. Services were held Monday, December 31 at the First Reformed Church in Meservey with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment was at the Meservey Cemetery. Music was provided by organist, Janet Pals. Soloist was Ron Symens. Ushers were Duane Mennenga and Andy Faaborg.
Casketbearers were Jon Suntken, Joey Suntken, Wayne Suntken, Guy Hartwig, Darin Suntken, and Matthew Hartwig.

Ruth, the daughter of Jacob and Rosa (Pals) Dorenkamp was born May 25, 1916 near Alexander. She was baptized June 9, 1916 at the Reformed Church in Meservey. She attended country schools and graduated from Meservey High School in 1934.
Ruth was united in marriage with Harm J. Suntken December 16, 1937 at the parsonage of the Meservey Reformed Church. They made their home in Meservey for a short time, then moved to a farm southeast of town and farmed there until 1963 when they moved into town. She was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church, Meservey where she was a member of the Dorcas Circle and Ladies Aide. She was a member of the Kitchen Klatter Band and the Golden Years Club. Ruth was known for her cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter, Tia. Survivors include her five children, Fred and his wife, Sandra Suntken of Meservey, Lawrence and his wife, Janet Suntken of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bonnie Lou and her husband, Don Brunstein of Omaha, Nebraska, Lloyd and his wife, Pat Suntken of Meservey, Rosalie and her husband, Mitchel Hartwig of Thornton; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Dorenkamp of Kendalwood, California; three sisters, Bonnie Boelman of Meservey, Leona Lieberknecht of Belmond and Marie Schott of Jacksonville, Florida and a sister-in-law, Ruth Dorenkamp of Clear Lake.
