Paul Calvin Veldhouse died Monday, May 28, 2001 at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, 2001 at the United Methodist Church, Goodell, with Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell. Music was provided by Shirley Kuhlers, organist. Ushers were Brittany Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Anna Skogerboe, Amy Skogerboe, Nicholas Barillas, and Rachel Barillas. Casketbearers were Gene Stille, Steve Stille, Mark Stille, Tom Stille, Larry Langlitz, and Larry Boller.
Paul Calvin Veldhouse, the son of Nick and Laura (Pehl) Veldhouse was born November 3, 1910, at Holmes, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a pharmacy degree. He married Florence Mason in May of 1936, and they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on the day Paul died. Paul and his brother, Jim ran the Goodell Elevator for a few years before Paul began farming north of Goodell. He farmed for a number of years with his son-in-law, Bob Stille. He worked for the USDA sealing and resealing corn. Paul and Florence built a new home in Goodell in 1947, and continued to live there until they entered the Belmond Health Care Center. He also built a cabin in Clear Lake, where they lived for a time. They loved to travel and pull their camper trailer, Paul liked country music and played the guitar. He loved to spend time with his family and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goodell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Virginia Stille, and brothers, Dick, George and Jim Veldhouse. Survivors include his wife, Florence; son-in-law, Bob Stille of Britt; granddaughters: Linda S. Skogerboe and her fiance, Craig Meints of Goodell, Laurie S. Anderson and her husband, Doug of Nevada; Lisa S. Barillas and her husband, Chris of Clear Lake; great-grandchildren: Brittany and Aaron Anderson, Anna and Amy Skogerboe, Nicholas and Rachel Barillas and sister, Edna Garnett of New Hampton.
