Alvin "Al" E. Iverson, 71, of 926 Talwrn Ct., died Monday, July 27, 1998, in Mercy Iowa City of complications from Parkinson's disease. His body was cremated. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Memory Gardens Cemetery, by Sister Agnes Giblin. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Survivors include his wife, June; his mother, Jean Iverson of Dows; a son, Hal and wife Renee of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Jane Corneils of Plano, Ill., and Jill and husband Mark Fleming of Cambridge, Idaho; and four grandchildren, Erin, Kari, Bradley and Brynn. He was preceded in death by his father. Alvin was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Wright County, Iowa, the son of Elwood and Paulina "Jean" Campbell Iverson. He graduated from Dows Community High School and served his country in the Navy during World War II as a radarman. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He married June Keifer on June 14, 1952, in Richmond. Alvin was employed as a certified public accountant for Wolf & Company in Des Moines and Chicago and Dee, Gosling & Company in Iowa City, which later merged with Clifton Gunderson, a CPA firm based in Peoria, Ill. He retired in 1992. Mr. Iverson was a member of Iowa City Elks Club, past president of Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants and had served on the Iowa Board of Accountants. He had been involved in numerous local and national professional organizations. He especially enjoyed golf and fishing. A memorial fund has been established for Parkinson's research.
