Joseph R. Horn, 89, of Clarion, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 of natural causes at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8th at Sunnyside Chapel, rural Charles City, at 10 a.m. Burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens with Military Rites conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Joseph R. Horn was born January 17, 1914 in Charles City, the son of George Christopher and Georgina H. (Reynolds) Horn. Joseph Horn and Nellie D. Christensen were united in marriage on March 31, 1935 in Charles City. Joseph worked for the Iowa Highway Commission in Charles City and Wright County. He also worked for the Clarion Police Department. Joseph was a member of the Clarion American Legion, Cedar Falls AMVETS, Charles City VFW and was very active in the Honor Guard of the American Legion, performing in full Navy uniform at the Clarion Memorial Day Services every year. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Hawaiian Islands from 1932-1934 and also the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1942-1945.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie on November 16, 2002; parents; three brothers; Kenneth, Melvin and Marvin; and one sister, Arlean.
