Phyllis Maxine Tourtelotte, 77, of Clarion, died Friday, September 6, 2002. A memorial service was held Tuesday, September 10 at Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsburg. Pastor Bill Keller officiated at the 4 p.m. service. Special Music was provided by the Choralaires. Burial will be at a later time. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements. Phyllis Maxine Sharp was born, May 2, 1925, in Clarion, the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Fordyce) Sharp. She attended school and graduated from Clarion High School in 1943. On February 6, 1944, Phyllis was united in marriage with Frank Tourtelotte, at the Clarion First United Congregational Church. The couple had four children, Linda, Kathy, Brian and Lisa. Phyllis worked for many local businesses and farmers as a bookkeeper, but spent most of her time working for First National Bank in Clarion. Phyllis was a member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg for over 30 years. She had been a choir director, Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, camp counselor at Pilgrim Heights, and she organized Operation Christmas Child for the Samaritans Purse in this area. She was also very active with the AWANAS organization at the Missionary Alliance Church, where she made sure every child received a birthday card. In addition to her activities at church, Phyllis was also a charter member of the Choralaires of which she truly loved and took great pride.

Survivors include her husband, Frank of Clarion; four children, Linda Hendley and husband, John, Kathy Glasco and husband, Steve, Brian Tourtelotte and wife, Jo, Lisa Gates and husband, Brad; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley LaBarr of Littleton, Colorado, Norma Lea Kvindlog and husband, Don of Cedar Rapids; one aunt, Esther Patton of Humboldt; one uncle, Don Sharp of Clarion and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Phyllis Tourtelotte of Clarion was fatally injured in an accident on Highway 69 south of Clarion on Friday. Her husband, Frank, was also injured in the collision. According to a report from the Wright County Sheriff's Department, both cars were going north on Highway 69. The Tourtelotte car was attempting to pass a truck driven by Allan Baumler just south of C-54, when the truck turned left into a DeCoster Farms driveway, striking the Tourtelotte vehicle. The accident was reported by the Iowa State Patrol. They were assisted by the Wright County Sheriff's office and the Clarion Ambulance Service. The accident remains under investigation.
