Jeanne E. Strom, 85, of Clarion, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Wright County Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held Friday, April 19th at Willim Funeral Home in Clarion. Rev. Gary Boen officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements. Jeanne Strom was born March 7, 1917 in Clarion the daughter of Lloyd and Jeanette Morgan Strom. She was raised in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1934. In 1938, she received her R.N. degree from the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. 1st Lt. Jeanne Strom served as a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II from September 1942 until December 1945, at various posts in the United States and in England. Jeanne earned her B.S. from the University of California in 1950 and her Master's degree in Public Health in 1959. She worked in the Public Health Department in the State of Iowa from the early 1950's until her retirement in 1981. After retiring Jeanne enjoyed volunteering at the Science Center of Iowa and Living History Farms. After living in Des Moines for 35 years, Jeanne became a resident at the Meadows Apartments in Clarion. Jeanne is survived by two sisters; Jeri (Alvin) Charlson of Belmond, Helen Capp of California; three nephews and one niece and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Byrne.
