Millard (Mel) Robie, 88, of Clarion, died Saturday, January 26, 2002. Services were held Tuesday, January 29, at the United Methodist Church, Clarion. Rev. LaVonne Kaasa officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements. Mel Robie was born January 27, 1913, in Blairsburg, the son of Cyruss and Pearl (Stafford) Robie. He graduated from Blairsburg High School and attended Hamilton Business College. Mel and Vivian Flurer were married June 25, 1934. They moved to Casper, Wyoming, and spent four years there before returning to Ames in 1938, where they operated a grocery store for two years. They then moved to Gilmore City and operated a grocery store for two years. They moved to Clarion in 1942 and opened Robie's Super Valu, which they owned and operated until he retired in 1977. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Clarion Lions Club, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of many other local organizations.
Mel is survived by one son, Tom Robie and wife, Maxine of Holstein, one daughter, Patricia Meyer and husband, Richard of Gowrie; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Helen Morris of Clarion.
