Bernard Eugene Mattingly, 76, of Clarion, passed away at Wright Medical Center, Clarion on Tuesday, January 22, 2002. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Clarion. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Clarion. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements. Bernard Eugene Mattingly was born December 12, 1925, the son of Daniel Owen and Nellie Mae Kastler Mattingly of rural Clarion. He was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church, Clarion. Bernard was raised and educated in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy after graduation and served on a U.S. Navy carrier. Bernard and Bethene Faulkner were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion on June 28, 1947. They made their home in Clarion where they raised their family. Bernard worked for McNeal Grain, Cyanamid, Farm Service, and Hagie Manufacturing. After his retirement, Bernard enjoyed working visitations and driving the funeral coach for Willim Funeral Home. Bernard was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Clarmond Country Club, American Legion, and the Lions Club for many years. He served on the Hospital Board for 28 years and was a member of the Clarion Jaycees.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Bethene of Clarion, two children; Kathryn Bessman and husband, Gary of Alden; Kelly O'Keefe and husband, Tim of Manly; one sister, Emily Harris of Lake Cornelia, three grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Bernard is preceded in death by his parents.
