Dennis J. Carpenter, 48, of 1 Autumn Lane, Camillus died Wednesday at Barnes Hospital at St. Louis, Mo. Born in Draton, N.D., Mr. Carpenter was a 1960 graduate of St. Cloud State College, Minn. He had been a high school teacher in Dows, Iowa. Mr. Carpenter joined Investors Diversified Services as a sales representative in 1963 and was made district manager in 1968. In 1970 he was division manager in Honolulu, Hawaii, and became regional vice president of the northeast area in 1978. He was a member of the board of directors of IDS Life of New York, a member of the Bellevue Country Club and a communicant of Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Thorpe Carpenter; two daughters, Janelle Ancillopti of Syracuse, and Jacqueline Carpenter of Sacramento, Calif.; his parents A.B. Carpenter of Spokane, Wash; a brother, Douglas, also of Spokane. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Minneapolis, Minn. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 1628 W. Genesee St. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hope for the Bereaved.
