Veloise Elizabeth Davis died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at home in Washougal, Washington. She was 96. Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 18, 1907, in Galt, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa Methodist Nursing School in Des Moines in 1929. She moved to Washington state in 1930. She was a member of Salmon Falls Chapel and American Legion Cape Horn Post 122, both in Washougal. Her husband, James, and son, Michael, both preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Joy S. Newman of Vancouver and Joanna Phillips of Washougal; two sons, James Jr. of Temecula, Calif., and Ted of Grants Pass, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. The casket will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas. A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washougal Memorial Cemetery, followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service at Salmon Falls Chapel.
