NORTHWOOD - Harriet Willand, 65, of Northwood died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Daniel Hart officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood.
Harriet Ann Peterson was born Aug. 29, 1945, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Henry and Alice (Christian) Peterson of Scarville. She attended school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1963. She then attended Austin Area Vocational School (now Riverland College), Austin, Minnesota, where she was certified as a licensed practical nurse upon graduation. She was united in marriage to Warren Willand on April 25, 1964, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, and from this union three children were born.
For 41 years she worked as a nurse, the last seven years at the Mercy Medical Clinic, Northwood. In addition to her career she served as a caregiver to her immediate and extended family. Countless sutures, fractures, illnesses and hospitalizations were treated under her guidance.
Harriet was fond of traveling, her eight grandkids, reading books on her Kindle, playing organ and piano, and fishing and reading in a boat at the same time. Also she was a collector of many angel figurines. She was known for her many years of organ playing at First Lutheran Church and surrounding area churches.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents; father-in-law, Walter Willand; brother, Harlan Peterson; sister-in-law Joyce Willand; and nephew, Ryan Peterson.
The family members who were graced by her life were Warren Willand (husband of 46 years); her three children, Wesley and his wife Linda; their children Walter and Elizabeth; Sara and her husband, Steve, and their children, Spencer, Skyler, Sawyer and Sage; and Dan and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Ian and Alex; mother-in-law, Ellnora Willand; brother, Homer Peterson and his wife Penny; along with Wayne Willand and his wife, Beverly; brother-in-law, Ward Willand and his wife Emilie; and Linda Peterson sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa.
