Iver J. Hove
(December 1822 – March 18, 1907)

Obituary
Iver J. Hove was born in December 1822 in VileSogn Berjens Stift, Norway, where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary T. Sime. To them were born five children, the oldest of whom died in infancy. J. I. Hove, born May 9th, 1851 now of Hartland Township, T. I. Hove, born April 14, 1853, of Kiester, Minn, Anna (Mrs. O. Knudson) of Grove Township, born May 27, 1857, Lucy, born August 19, 1859. December 1860 he was left a widower and in the spring of 1861 he sold out his belongings and prepared to leave his native country and come to America. He came to Capron, Ill., in June 1861. He stopped there one year with his brother, Lars. In the spring of 1862 he came to Winneshiek County, Iowa, where he stayed one year with one of his brothers. In 1863 he came to Worth County and settled in Hartland Township where he has made his home. He was strong and robust in health and never had need of doctors. He could see to read without glasses until shortly before he died. He was able to take care of himself until some time in February, when he was taken sick with the grip and he seemed to fail gradually. When asked if he was sick or felt any pain he answered in the negative. He died at 4 o’clock on the 18th of March, aged 84 years and 3 months. The burial was from Shell Rock church, of which he was a member, on March 20, Rev. Roe, of Silver Lake officiating. Mr. Hove was a good man, kind to his family and considerate of his neighbors. He had lived a long and useful life and went to his reward firm in the assurance that all was well with him. Source – Northwood Anchor, Northwood, Iowa, Tuesday, March 26, 1907, p.5.
