Magdalene Tosdal
(December 5, 1845 – January 23, 1902)

Obituary
Mrs. Magdalene Tosdal was born in Helgeland, Norway, December 5, 1845; passed away in Northwood, Iowa, January 23, 1902, her sudden death being caused by a second stroke of paralysis. She was the fifth child of Rev. G. D. and Ulrikke Olava Greve. Her childhood and youth were spent in Norway, and there, on June 22, 1876, she was united in marriage to Rev. L. Tosdal. Their wedding trip was across the ocean and to Detroit, Michigan, where Mr. Tosdal served as mission minister for one year. They then moved to Silver Lake, Iowa, where the husband accepted a call and where they labored faithfully for thirteen years. The family then moved to Slayton, Minn., which was their home for six years. They then came to Northwood, Iowa, where the lady’s last seven years were spent. Five children were born to Rev. and Mrs. Tosdal, of whom four – Mrs. Georgia Christensen, and Misses Martha, Lulu and Hannah Tosdal remain to mourn the loss of a most loving mother. Two sisters and two brothers survive the deceased in Norway. Mrs. Tosdal was a rare example of all the domestic graces; steadfast and true in all relations of life; she lived and died firm in the Christian faith. Her funeral services, Monday, p.m. conducted by Rev. L. O. Pederson, were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
