Mason City - Kathryn Hebel, 78, fondly known as Katie, passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) due to complications from surgery.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, with the Rev. David Kucera officiating. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St. in Manly.

Memorials may be directed to the Kathryn Hebel Memorial Fund.

Kathryn (Basgall) Hebel was born April 3, 1923, in Manly. She was the daughter of Emmanuel and Barbara (Frank) Basgall. She was married to Gerald (Jack) Hebel on Nov. 18, 1942, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Katie lived the majority of her life in Manly. She enjoyed watching television with her husband, Jack, especially "The Price is Right," "Wheel of Fortune" and John Wayne movies.

She also loved to spend time with her sisters, playing cards and bingo, fishing and golfing. Special time was spent with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Katie's special friend, her cat, Angel, brought her much joy and a constant napping partner. Katie will be remembered for her generosity and gentle nature. She spread her love to everyone who ever touched her life. Katie and Jack were beginning their 60th year of marriage.

Katie's surviving family include her husband, three daughters, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one expectant great-grandchild, one brother and two sisters.

Those surviving are daughter, Juanita and Jim Cooper, of Manly; granddaughter, Kim and Glen Venz, of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Natasha and Nicole; and grandson, Justin Cooper, a student in Ames. Daughter, Loretta and Tom Paten, of Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter, Kelley and Bill Smith, of Detroit, with baby Smith on the way; and granddaughter, Shawnda Westly of Sacramento, Calif. Daughter, Kathleen (Kathi) and Joel Jensen, of Cedar Rapids, and grandsons, Joshua and Jacob. Brother, Jake Bagsall of Los Angeles; sisters, Maggie Reed and Bobbie Lenhart, both of Clear Lake.

Katie will be missed greatly by her family, friends and Angel.
