Barbara Jean (Harders) Eilertson, 71, Northwood, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Albert Lea Regional Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn. A funeral service for Barbara was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 North 9th Street, Northwood, with Pastor Karen Rossing Grandall officiating. Burial was in the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.
Barbara Jean (Harders) Eilertson was born on Feb. 10, 1940, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Eggler) Harders. Barb attended school in Rochester, Minn., graduating from high school in 1958. Barb was united in marriage to Doyle Eilertson on Nov. 15, 1959, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn., and to this union four children were born, Jeanette, Gene, Rob, and Diane. After their marriage they lived in rural London, Minn., where Barb and Doyle farmed for a few years. The family moved to Northwood in February 1964. Barb began working for the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood in 1980, where she was a Certified Nursing Assistant and in the laundry area until 1992, she retired due to ill health. Barb enjoyed loving and taking care of her grandchildren, doing crafts, shopping, baking pies, working at the Lutheran Retirement Home, going out to eat and going to her meetings. During her last few years, Barb had a special interest in children with Autism.
Barb was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and former member of the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, Minn. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Doyle Eilertson of Northwood; three children, Gene (Kathy) Eilertson of Northwood, Rob (Bess) Eilertson of Northwood, and Diane (Doug) Meyers of Dixon, Ill.; 9 grandchildren, Melissa Harang and her husband Ben Barringer, Jesse Harang, Samantha Zipse, Levi, Kayla, Courtney, and Kristen Eilertson; Alex Leegaard, and Joshua Meyers; two step-grandsons, Luke and Matt Meyers; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Ellis; a son-in-law, Brad Zipse of Northwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Sue) Eilertson, Ilene (Roger) Jacox, Janet Bergo, Marlys (Byron) Woods and Rita (Jim) Rosenberg; special friends, Nancy (Gary) Mason of Myrtle, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruth Harders; daughter, Jeanette Zipse who died on Jan. 29, 2009; her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Ken Small; and her step-father, Emil Weise.
