Margaret Lillian Brazel, rural Northwood, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011, at the Manly Care and Rehabilitation Center, Manly, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, with the Rev. Wendi Gillan officiating. Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation was one hour prior to services.
Margaret was born Feb. 21, 1913, on a farm near Stockland, Ill., the daughter of John and Elfreda (Boldman) Brazel, second of eight children. As a young child the family moved to Albert Lea, Minn. In 1919, the family moved to the farm seven miles east of Northwood, where Margaret spent most of her remaining years. She attended rural school Deer Creek No. 6 and graduated from Northwood High School. She spent time in earlier years helping neighbors who lived nearby. Margaret accompanied a neighbor to California in 1937, returning in 1938. She enjoyed membership in later years at the Northwood Baptist Church, was a faithful Christian and for many years enjoyed radio ministries. She received adult Baptism at the First Baptist Church, Mason City, from Pastor Hugh Shively. Margaret enjoyed family, gardening and nature.
Margaret is survived by two sisters, Geneva (Robert) Patterson of Northwood and Beatrice (Rex) Brockett of Mason City, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Opal (Harry) Everhart, Gladys (Bardelt) Broers and Doris Brazel; brothers, Virgil and Kenneth (Lucille) Brazel; brothers-in-law, Harry Everhart, Bardelt Broers, Robert Patterson and Rex Brockett; and sister-in-law, Lucille Brazel. Memorials may be given to Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or charity of your choice.
