Barbara Meier

Barbara (Torgerson) Meier, 69, of Northwood, died on Thursday, January 3, 2002, of natural causes, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. She had been in declining health for a number of years.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, January 8, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Private inurnment was in the South Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood.
Barbara was born on February 7, 1932, on a farm east of Northwood, to Alfred and Viola (Helgeland) Torgerson. She was educated in Worth County starting with country school at Brookfield #1 and Brookfield #3, entering the Northwood School System in 1940 and graduating from the Northwood High School in 1950. She worked briefly in the Anchor office, the Northwood Theater and for several years as a switchboard operator in the local telephone office.
She married Ken Meier at Manly in a wedding ceremony officiated by her paternal grandfather, the late Rev. A. J. Torgerson. Later the couple relocated to the Chicago area as Ken pursued a career in the trucking industry. Upon his retirement in 1993, they returned to Northwood.
Barbara's special interests included cats, extensive reading, indoor flowers and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; son, Kyle; sister, Margaret; and her parents.
Survivors include her son, Kal and his wife, Pam of LaPorte, Texas; and a brother, Don Torgerson of Yorba Linda, California.
The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of the arrangements.
