Harold E. Halvorson, age 84 of Lake Mills, formerly of rural Northwood, died on Friday, May 03, 2019 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Lake Mills Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 North 1s t Ave. East, with Pastor David Emmons and Pastor Wayne Halvorson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Otto Chose Post #235.

Burial was in the Somber Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, where he was a lifelong member.

Harold E. Halvorson was born August 12, 1934 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Lawrence and Millie (Loberg) Halvorson. He attended Somber Christian Day School through 8th grade and then Lake Mills High School graduating in 1952.

Harold was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1958.

He was married to Mavis J. Harang on June 17, 1956 at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters, Jill and Rachel were born.
After being discharged from the Army he took over the family farm which was registered as a Century Farm in 1976. He milked cows until 1997 and continued to run the rest of the farm until 2015. A highlight of his life was making a trip to Norway with his wife and her siblings and spouses in 1997.

Harold was known for helping out neighbors any time they needed it, showing off pictures of his granddaughters, throwing out an occasional Norwegian phrase and tinkering with cars and tractors or anything else that needed fixing, especially if he could use his welding skills. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his granddaughters, who remember him for his singing in church, his smile and his laugh. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mavis Halvorson of Lake Mills; daughters, Jill Halvorson of rural Northwood and Rachel (Richard) Bowman of Lake Mills; three grandchildren, Rylee, Robyn and Rori Bowman; brother, Wayne Halvorson of Albert Lea, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeanette (Bendickson) Harmon.
