John Z. Zipse, 81, Northwood, died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center--North Iowa in Mason City.
A celebration of his life was held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Judy Converse officiating.
There was military honors at the church by Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post 6779, of Northwood.
John Z. Zipse was born on Oct. 7, 1935, the son of George and Angeline (Green) Zipse of New Hampton. John received his education in the New Hampton Community Schools.
The family moved to Wisconsin where John would help his family on the farm. John was inducted into the Army on Dec. 10, 1954, in Albert Lea, MN, and served his country honorable and faithfully until his honorable discharge on Dec. 9, 1957, at Ft. Lewis, WA.
He was united in marriage to Nalda Schutz on Aug. 28, 1960, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and to this marriage four children were born, Craig, Clifford, Bradley, and Melissa.
John also worked for Coca Cola Company in Albert Lea, MN, Armour Meat Packing Company for 21 years in Mason City, Fleet Guard Manufacturing in Lake Mills for 14 years, and Advanced Components in Northwood, and Fallgatter’s Grocery Store in Northwood.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nalda Zipse of Northwood; his children, Craig (Debbi) Zipse of St. Ansgar, Clifford (Karen) Zipse of Northwood, Bradley Zipse of Northwood, and Melissa (Dan) Heiken of Northwood; his grandchildren, Logan and Mandy Zipse, Taylor (Kendall) Hansen, Nicole (Andrew) Ponce, Alan, Matthew, and Samantha Zipse, Jesse (Stephanie) Harang, Melissa (Ben) Barringer, Morgan Johnson, and Lauren Heiken; his great-grandchildren, Dylan Cortes, Austin Morris, Siahna Bewley, Jolene and Blair Hansen, Riley Hutchinson, and Hunter and Skyler Barringer; his sister, Betty Wilkinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Angeline Zipse; two brothers, Jim and Charles Zipse; sister, Mary Wentworth; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Zipse; nephew, Mark Zipse; brothers-in-law, Steve Schutz, and Glennys Schutz; and his mother and father-in-law, Orville and Olga Schutz.
