MANLY | Ruth “Elaine” Parker, 81, of Manly, IA, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a serious illness.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating.
Burial will take place at the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan, IA.
Elaine was born on Oct. 7, 1935, in Greene County, IA, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth (Dudley) Hoskins. She graduated from Paton High School in 1954. After graduation, she worked as a bank teller in Jefferson and then Churdan. On Nov. 4, 1956, Elaine married Harold Parker. She helped out as a bookkeeper in Harold’s office when the need arose. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in November 2016. Three children were born to the couple: Jolene, Lorrie, and Jeff.
Elaine was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church and received her 50-year pin from the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the OES Lucky Charms Grand Family in 1995 and enjoyed the traveling, visitation, and holding the office of Grand Electa with the Grand Family. She was a long-time member and secretary of the local UMW, and attended School of Missions for 15 years. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Over the years, Elaine enjoyed cooking, flower arranging, square dancing as a member of the Laurel Lariats, traveling, and spending time with her family. She rarely missed any family members’ events. Elaine was known for her caring heart and the great love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Harold Parker; children, Jolene (Ron) Davis of Jasper, GA, Jeff (Cathlin) Parker of Colorado Springs, CO, and son-in-law Dave Curry of Le Mars, IA; siblings, Myrna (Joel) Heifner, Frank (Claudia) Hoskins, and Betty Ann (Jim) Byson; grandchildren Daniel (Laura) Schrader, Stefanie (Chris) Steies, Shannon Parker (fiancé Jim Sherwood), J.J. Parker, Adam Curry, Ross Curry, Ryan Davis, and Shane (fiancé Mekaela Harrison) Davis; and ten great-grandchildren.
