Ina Thorson, 99, Northwood, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
A funeral service for Ina was held Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, with the Rev. Judy Converse of First Lutheran Church in Northwood officiating. Burial was in the London Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Ina Thorson was born on July 6, 1917, in rural Glenville, MN, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Setter) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, MN. She was united in marriage to Alvin Thorson on April 9, 1944, at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, MN. She attended and received her education in the Northwood Community Schools. Ina worked at the Paramount Restaurant in Northwood before going to work for Fleetguard Manufacturing in Lake Mills working there until her retirement. Ina received her 30-year ring from Fleetguard.
She loved to garden, growing flowers, and was known as the “Flower Lady” in Northwood; she also loved horses, cats, and fishing.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Leroy (Lauri) Thorson of Lino Lakes, MN, Darlene Thorson and special friend Thomas Stacy of Williamsburg, KS, and Marvin Thorson of Lake Mills; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jody Thorson of Clear Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Ina was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ida Olson; her husband, Alvin Thorson who died on June 24, 1982; her daughter, Ilene “Joey” Thorson in October 1995, her son, Allen Thorson in 2004; her brother, Kenneth Olson, and two sisters, Nadine Broitzman, and Lorraine
