Hilborg "Fern" Tangen-Hoffbec, 86, formerly of Hanlontown, died Monday (Aug. 14, 1995) at St. Paul Church Home, St. Paul, Minn. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Graveside
inurnment services are tentatively set for 11 a.m. Friday at Brushpoint Cemetery, Hanlontown, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz of Fertile Church of Christ officiating.

Fern was born May 24, 1909, in North Dakota, the daughter of John Furness and Alida Furness (nee) Jacobson. She graduated from Hanlontown High School and from nursing school in the Twin Cities. She worked for many years as a nurse and was much loved by all who knew her.

Survivors include three children, Mary Lois Shug, St. Louis Park, Minn.; Serena Ann Parenteau, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Penny Stevens of Aurora, Colo.; six sisters, Jenny Aasland of Cedar Rapids; Mabel Main of Stewartville, Minn.; Esther Haugen of Fertile; Evelyn Klem of Albuquerque, N.M.; Dorothy Schulte of Fairbault, Minn., and Helen Balfe, Fairbault, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ted Tangen; her second husband, Loren Hoffbec; one daughter; five brothers; and four sisters.
