Curtis L. Evans, 70, of Joice, IA passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

A M\memorial service was held 10:30 AM, Monday, October 31 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lake Mills, IA, 50450, with Father Jim Dubert officiating.

Inurnment was held at Concordia Cemetery in rural Joice.

Curtis Lloyd Evans was born on his family farm near Joice, IA on October 19, 1946 to Lloyd and Charlotte (Homes) Evans. He was the youngest of four children, which included his sisters Charlene, Loretta, and Janet. He attended elementary school in Joice and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1964. He graduated from NIACC in 1966. He was united in marriage to Suzanne Milder of Olin on July 12, 1969. To this union, six children were born: Thaddeus, Christopher, Catherine, Emily, Lucas, and Rachel. His family was very important to him and it is what he considers his greatest accomplishment. He farmed the land and produced corn, soybeans, raspberries, pumpkins, and the best sweet corn in northern Iowa.

Curt was known for his gentle and humble spirit, quick wit, and great sense of humor. It was rare to find a person who did not like Curt. He was a passionate, thoughtful man of high character who was always good for a conversation and a laugh. He enjoyed vacations to the Black Hills and was proud of having visited every state in the US. He enjoyed a wide range interests including sports, politics, playing cards, genealogy, meteorology, and furniture restoration. He was a steward of the land and advocated for conservation and protecting the environment.

His life is a testament to his generous spirit, as well as the generous spirit of others. He received a kidney transplant from his sister-in-law, Marge Johnson, in December of 1995. He was able to live with his new kidney for 17 years, of which he said were the best 17 years of his life. In that time, he was able to see six high school graduations, seven college/graduate school graduations, five weddings, and the births of seven grandchildren.

His many colloquialisms were used to provoke thought and wisdom such as ANY JOB WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING WELL. He has now left us in life, and his JOB as a farmer and as a family man was DONE with WORTH and it was DONE VERY WELL. We will miss him tremendously. His life will live on in the seeds that he sowed, the people that he touched, the children that he raised, and the wife that he loved.

Curt is survived by his wife of 47 years, Suzanne (Milder) Evans; six children: Thaddeus (Christine) Evans, Christopher (Joy) Evans, Catherine (Steven) Sand, Emily (Michael) Murphy, Lucas (Summer) Evans, and Rachel Evans; seven grandchildren: Mary Evans, Becca Evans, Lea Sand, Connor Sand, Ethan Murphy, Andrew Murphy, and Charlotte Evans; two sisters: Charlene (Gene) Ostmo and Loretta (Larry) Dorhout; and a special sister-in-law: Marge (Larry) Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Charlotte Evans, parents-in-laws, Ralph and Bertha Milder, and by a sister, Janet (Evans) Gallagher.
