MASON CITY — Alyce Burnette (Myre) Brunsvold, age 94, went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City. Prior to entering Good Shepherd, she lived at Cornerstone Assisted Living and Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living in Mason City.

A celebration of life service for Alyce was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., in Mason City with the Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. A lunch will follow the services.

Alyce was laid to rest at the Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.

Alyce was born on March 6, 1922, the second of five daughters, to Martin H. and Mabel (Helgeson) Myre on the family farm southwest of Northwood. She was baptized and reaffirmed her faith through confirmation at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, and graduated from Kensett High School.

Alyce met Marvell Brunsvold of Joice while attending Elk Creek Lutheran Church and was united in marriage on June 12, 1942, in Kensett and to this union three sons and one daughter were born: Dennis, Linda, Keith and Kevin.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an active member at Elk Creek Lutheran, Bristol Lutheran and Sion Lutheran churches teaching Sunday School, circle participant, singing in the choir and serving on various committees. Upon relocating to Mason City, she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Her husband joined the Army Air Force on June 25, 1942, serving during World War II. Alyce and Marvell commenced with farming in Iowa settling on a farm in Bristol Township near Joice and farmed there for 28 years.

She worked as a supervisor for 17 years at Fleetguard in Lake Mills, retiring in 1984. Alyce and Marvell eventually retired in Northwood and later moved to the Meadows Apartments in Mason City.

Alyce enjoyed cooking, baking and getting together with her family, making sure everyone had enough to eat. She enjoyed camping, going on bus trips and car trips with family and friends. Dancing at the Surf and several other dance venues, including square dancing was something she thoroughly enjoyed with her husband.

She enjoyed playing golf, cards, dominoes and scrabble. Coffee and cookies were always ready for visitors. Art being her favorite class in school, she attended an art class while at Good Shepherd and surprised us with her drawings.

Alyce spent 73 blessed married years with the love of her life, Marvell. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will always be remembered by all who knew her for her friendly nature, hospitality, welcoming smile and wit. She was a caregiver and always put others first. Her love for the Lord and prayer were very important to her.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Dennis (Marilyn) Brunsvold, daughter Linda Edwards, Keith (Linda) Brunsvold, and Kevin (Julie) Brunsvold, all of Mason City, 11 grandchildren, Rick (Caren) Brunsvold of Mason City, Todd Brunsvold of Phoenix, AZ, Shelly (Allen) Wander of Clear Lake, Stacy (Rana) Jordahl of Charleston, SC, Russell Edwards of Scottsdale, AZ, Chad (Melissa) Brunsvold of Mason City, Shea (Brendan) Thompson of West Des Moines, Sharla Brunsvold of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tara (Brad) Hofer of Ames, Bobbi Jo (Blaine) Perau of West Des Moines and Alycia (William) Thomsen of Cedar Falls, IA; 15 great-grandchildren, sister Marcella Smith of Adams, Minnesota, brother-in-law’s Wesley Dahl of Mason City, and Pete Lonergan of Rose Creek, Minnesota and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
