Spencer Irving Anonson was born on March 9, 1920, in Worth County, Iowa, to parents Bert and Clara (Bergland) Anonson. He attended country school southwest of Joice and graduated from Joice High School in 1938.

On November 23, 1944, Spencer was united in marriage to his love Marian Jensen at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Spencer and Marian were blessed with two children: Barry and Mardene. Marian passed away on October 6, 1978. Spencer found happiness again, and was wed to Senoma (Bang) Kittleson on September 3, 1983. They were just shy of their 28th anniversary when Senoma passed.

Joice has always been home for Spencer … unless he was up north fishing. Throughout the years, he drove a stock truck for EG Arneson, worked at Arneson Hardware, farmed with Stanley Kittleson, and eventually retired from Worth County road maintenance.

Spencer served his community as a charter member of the Joice Fire Department, as well as being a member of the Joice City Council, Joice Public School Board, and the Joice Rod and Gun Club. Following his retirement, he enjoyed 21 summers of fishing at Leech Lake and fished as often as he wanted. He also liked wood working and going to garage sales.

Spencer is survived by his two children: son Barry (Terry) Anonson and daughter Mardene Lien, of Joice; seven grandchildren: Jill Anonson of West Des Moines, Jon (Kelly) Anonson of Ankeny, Jake (Jill) Anonson of West Des Moines, Liz (Chris) Field of Waukee, Sara (Steve) Hagen of Lake Mills, Carrie (Jeremy) Smith of Joice, and Melissa (Ryan) Joynt of Lake Mills; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Eleanor Murray of Buffalo Center; two sisters-in-law Iola Sunie and Wanda Bredeson; and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Clara Anonson, wife Marian, wife Senoma, son-in-law Denny Lien, two brothers Kermit Anonson and Burton Anonson, and a brother-in-law Jim Murray.
