NORTHWOOD, IOWA — Wayne Harry Hillman, 77, Northwood, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.

A funeral service for Wayne will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Judy Converse officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, with military honors conducted by members of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post No. 6779 of Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

Wayne Harry Hillman, was born on Aug. 24, 1938, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Harry and Evelyn (Sime) Hillman. Wayne was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at First Lutheran Church in Northwood. He received his education in the Northwood Community Schools, graduating from Northwood High School in 1956. Wayne also attended Luther College before entering the Army.

He was inducted into the Army on Feb. 19, 1958, and served as a military policeman until his honorable discharge on Feb. 5, 1960. After his discharge Wayne came back to Northwood, and began farming with his father in the livestock business, and continued the farming operation after his father’s death. Wayne was a lifelong Worth County resident.

He loved and enjoyed going to Canada fishing with his family and friends, and playing Wiest and 500 cards.

Wayne was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wanda Hillman of Northwood; his children, David (Shauna) Hillman of Rochester, MN, Diane (Scott) Shaver of Plover, WI, and Dan (Jodi) Hillman of Traer, IA; his grandchildren, Zach, Noah, and Blake Hillman, Cierra and Anneka Shaver, and Bryce and Kodi Hillman; his sister, Gwenyth Hanson of Northwood; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Evelyn Hillman, and a brother-in-law, Harvey Hanson.
