Everett Arthur Braun was born December 28, 1925 in Barton Township, Worth County. The youngest of eight children, he was corn to Otto and Alvina (Walk) Braun. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton and has been a lifelong member of the church, serving as a deacon and church council member in earlier years. He attended country school near Grafton and high school at Grafton.

Everett proudly served his country during World War II on a US Navy destroyer, most of the time in Japan and China. His fleet was first to enter Tokyo Bay. On December 23, 1945 Everett married the love of his life, Chrystal Jean Pike at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by Rev. Olaf A. Langehough. They were happily married for over 69 years and resided on the same farm Northwest of Grafton all of their married life.

Everett farmed many acres and did custom corn shelling until 1972. He then farmed fewer acres and worked for David Manufacturing Co. in Mason City for 19 years. Upon retirement, he worked part-time at his son’s business, Braun Industries in Grafton. Everett loved to junk and salvage old machinery. He enjoyed taking part in tractor pulls at many county fairs. Everett participated in mechanical corn picking contests, winning 3rd in the state contest in 1964. He loved his Ford tractors, trucks and machinery. He loved helping his children and grandchildren get calves ready for the county fair. Everett served as director on the Worth County Co-op Oil board for 19 years.

Everett will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Friends and family will also remember him for his quick wit and sense of humor. Everett and Chrystal enjoyed attending many of their grandchildren’s activities and were very proud of them.

Everett is survived by his wife Chrystal and their children: Keith and wife, Sue (Wagner), of Northwood; Steven and wife, Joan (Wilder), of St. Ansgar; Rita and husband, Richard Bebler, of Mankato, MN; Christopher and wife, Teresa (Hanson), of Grafton. Everett is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Everett is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
