NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Eric Allen Miner, age 50, of Northwood, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at his home.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at Conner Colonial Chapel in Northwood.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Eric Miner Memorial Fund.

Eric was born on June 5, 1965, the son of Allen and Sandi (Thoen) Miner in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Patty Abben on June 26, 2000, and to this union a son, Jordan, was born.

A graduate of Northwood-Kensett High School, class of 1984, Eric joined the National Guard in 1983, serving with the 1133rd Division, and was honorably discharged in 1988. He received a diesel mechanic degree from North Iowa Community College and worked as a mechanic most of his life.

Eric was such a compassionate and giving person. He would give the "shirt off his back" to help anyone; whether it was helping repair a vehicle, construction, to help a neighbor, stranger and much more. He loved spending time with his son and watching him play sports. They enjoyed spending time together "roughing it" in a tent while catching several fish. They'd also go looking at cars for hours, dreaming of their perfect car.

Eric's favorite hobby was working on any type of machine or vehicle with a motor. His specialty became Volkswagen Beetles. He could build a car from top to bottom.

Eric is survived by a son, Jordan Miner of Mason City; mother, Sandi Miner of Northwood; three sisters: Tracy (Brad) Jacks of Eaton, Colorado, Wendy (Neal) Skellenger of Lake Mills, and Marcia (special friend, Mike Walsh) Toft of Lyle, Minnesota; four nieces: Amanda (Brian) Cook, Janelle Jacks, Megan Jacks and Callie (fiancé, Wade Flattum) Carlson; two nephews: Mitchell (Jessica) Hanson and Colby (fiancée, Jena Arnold) Carlson; great-nieces and nephews: Nixson Jaehn, Haddie Hanson, Hallie Hanson: and Axel Flattum; two brothers-in-law: Scott Hanson and Craig Toft; several cousins, aunts, uncles, and close friends; and three step-children: Adam, Ashley and Travis Abben. Eric was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Miner; grandparents, Don and Fern Miner and Raymond and Vivian Thoen; an uncle, Eugene "Buzz" Weiland; an aunt, Roxanne Reyerson; and a close friend, Dean Morris.
