NORTHWOOD, IOWA - John Edward Scott, 74, Northwood, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral service for John will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood with full military honors conducted by members of the United States Army. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the chapel.

John Edward Scott was born Feb. 1, 1941, in Durand, Michigan. The son of William J. and Charlotte (Orrang) Scott, he received his elementary education at William Grace Elementary School in Hailey, Michigan and graduated from Cooley High school in Detroit, Michigan. John also attended college at the Detroit Institute of Technology.

John enlisted and served in the US Army from 1961-1981 serving overseas in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Vietnam and various stateside bases. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1981, John was employed at Commonwealth Edison Nuclear Power Station-Zion, Illinois, and then was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance in Racine, Wisconsin, Prudential Insurance in Racine, Wisconsin, before starting his own business, Scott and Associates, Racine, Wisconsin.

Upon moving to Iowa, John worked as a salesman for Sedars Motor Company, Price Motors and State Street Auto Company.

John enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the VFW.

Those left to cherish his memory are his former wife Lynne A. Scott and their children: Linda (James) Medlang of Northwood, John W. Scott of Highwood, Illinois, Theodore Scott of Antioch, Illinois, Nancy (Mark) Schucart of Gurnee, Illinois; his grandchildren, Jessica, James and Sonya Medlang, Nicole and Thomas Scott and Jane Schucart. His brother, Michael (Katherine) Scott of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as well as many other extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Charlotte Scott, his brother James M. Scott, his cousin Bill Byrd and his infant grandson Robert Thorald Scott.
