NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Keva Suzanne Hale, 49, Northwood, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, of cancer, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life service for Keva will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N., Northwood, with the Rev. Shirley Hoffmann Will and the Rev. Scott Keele Kober officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Keva Suzanne (Keele) Hale was born on December 26, 1964, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Larry and Judith (Poe) Keele. She attended schools in Coralville, Eldridge and Tama and graduated from high school in Ottumwa in 1983. She graduated from Indian Hills Community College, Buena Vista University and received her Masters from University of Northern Iowa.
Keva was director at Sunshine and Rainbows Preschool in Red Oak, worked as a home intervention teacher for Southern Prairie AEA, and worked for AEA 267 for the past 13 years in numerous capacities: directing the program at Project Childcare located in Manly, assisted area schools in complying for certification of their preschool programs, teaching courses for preschool teachers. She enjoyed doing verification visits to preschools around the state and participating as a member of the state leadership team.
Keva married her husband and love of her life, Terry Hale, in 2001. Her two daughters from her previous marriage were adopted by Terry.
Keva loved spending her leisure time with her family – picnicking, hiking, kayaking and playing tennis and golf. She also loved cooking and baking and dreamed of opening a bakery. She enjoyed scrapbooking and photography, all music but especially big band music, crafts such as making rag quilts and creating greeting cards. She was avid about organizing events for her family, especially birthday parties and Christmas celebrations. The past year brought great happiness to Keva when she was blessed with two granddaughters, Anika and Eliza.
Those who will cherish her memory are husband Terry Hale of Northwood; her daughters Suzanne (Christopher) Nordhus, and daughter Anika of Nevada, Kaitlyn Hale and boy friend Mitchell Rainey of Ames; stepdaughter, Whitney Hale and fiancé Thomas Williams and their daughter Eliza of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Thomas’ son Caiden; stepson, Wyatt Hale of Lincoln, Nebraska her parents Larry and Judy Keele of Northwood; her sister Kristen Arnold and her husband Mark St. Hilaire of Natick, Mass.; her brother Mark (Peggy) Keele of Cedar Rapids and their son Spencer (Tracy) Mathews of Council Bluffs, her sister Karen Keele (Scott) Kober and nephew Ethan of Solon; nephew, David Arnold of New York, N.Y.; nephew Erik Arnold of Amherst, Mass.; stepchildren of Kristen Arnold, Rose and Mario St. Hilaire of Natick, Mass.; many special cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Keva loved her pets and felt deeply about the humane treatment of animals; therefore memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 South Birch Drive in Mason City, or to Mayo Clinic Hospice, 404 W. Fountain in Albert Lea, Minn., who cared for Keva during her last days.
