Tom Luckason Dead
(Dec 23, 1867 - Nov 1907)

Early Thursday morning word was passed from mouth to mouth upon our streets that Tom Luckason had passed away during the preceding night. And in every voice as they spoke there was a tone of sadness as of one who had lost a friend. Though Mr. Luckason had been seriously ill for several days it was looked upon by his friends as but a temporary attack of an ailment to which he was subject, and the news of his death came as a shock to the thousands of Worth County citizens who are proud to call him friend.

Thomas A. Luckason was born near Kensett, Worth Co. Iowa on the 23rd Day of December 1867. Had he survived till the 23rd of next month he would have been 40 years old.

Deceased was the eldest son of Andrew Luckason one of the pioneers of Worth County.

In his early youth Tom began the serious labors of life and his keen foresight his willingness to work and his broad capacities brought an unusual measure of success. While still a comparatively young man at the time of his death he was the owner of 400 acres of rich Iowa soil.

On June 11th 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Rustad, daughter of Simon Rustad Worth County’s second pioneer. To this union five children were born all of whom survive to mourn their father’s loss. They are Annie, Norma, Arthur, Selmer and Charlotte. In July 1899 the loving mother passed to the great beyond leaving her namesake Charlotte a babe but a few days old.
On May 12th [1906] Mr. Luckason was joined in wedlock to Mrs. Ure who has been a true mother to his motherless children.
The funeral will be held today (Monday.) The service at the home will be at noon and the service at the Lutheran church in Kensett at 2pm. Interment will be made in the Kensett cemetery. Rev. L. O. Pederson will conduct the services.

Tom Luckason's ruling passion was perhaps the love of fine stock. For years he held the responsible position of caretaker of the splendid blooded stallions belonging to G. N. Haugen Horse Importing Co. Ten years ago he began breeding thoroughbred shorthorn shorthorn cattle and his herd today is one of the finest in the state. He was the best known stockman in Worth County and has done more than any other man to upbuild the agricultural community and to make Worth County stock known in distant parts of the State.

Tom Luckason was a big hearted genial man and everybody's friend. We have never heard a human being speak otherwise of him than in highest terms. The editor will never forget one instance of his kindness. In the early days of last winter the editor found himself stranded at night in Manly with the urgent necessity of being at home. Tom Luckason came through that town enroute home from Mason City. In spite the fact that the hour was late, that he had had a long hard ride and that the night was bitter cold this big hearted man insisted in depositing us at our own door though it added 14 miles to an already long drive.

In the death of Tom Luckason his wife loses a loving husband and his children a kind and indulgent father, the business interests of this community lose one of its most liberal and progressive promoters, while every man in the county has lost a warm hearted friend. It is hard to understand why one whose life meant so much to an entire community should be cut down in his prime. But through it all let us believe that what is our loss is his eternal gain.
