Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 20, 1986 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, for Earl Jesse Cooper, 83. Pastor E. C. Franke officiated, and burial was in Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle, Minnesota. Mr. Cooper died on Wednesday, December 17, 1986, at the Good Samaritan Center nursing home in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
He was born on October 16, 1903 in Manly, Iowa, to Guy and Mamie (Paulson) Cooper. He was baptized and confirmed in the rural Lutheran Church near Kensett, Iowa. He was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church near Carpenter, Iowa, since 1933. He served on the church council, financial committee for the church, and was active in Brotherhood Men's Club of the church.
Earl farmed with his father before he was married. Then he farmed in the Manly area and Grafton area. For 18 years he farmed west of Carpenter. In 1972 he retired in Carpenter.
On September 15, 1926, he was married to Gladys Larson at Carpenter.
Earl also served on the Carpenter school board and was a director of the Rural Electric Cooperative.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Carpenter; a brother, Glennys, of Manly; four sons: Dale of Manchester, Iowa, Eugene of Anoka, Minnesota, Neil and Paul of Los Angeles, California; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
