Barbara Elizabeth (Stevens) Tesene

Manly, Iowa — Barbara Elizabeth (Stevens) Tesene, 88, of Manly, passed away Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013, at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in Manly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway, Manly, with the Rev. Rodney Allers as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Visitation will take place Monday evening, March 25, at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Scriptural wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be left to the Sacred Heart Parish Lift Fund or the Manly Senior Center.

Barbara Elizabeth Stevens was born on April 16, 1924, in Gloucester, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Maud (Cook) Stevens. She graduated from Gloucester High School among the class of 1942.

She worked in the office of Cape Ann Tool Co. in Rockport, Mass., until her marriage to John Tesene. She met John in 1942 while he was serving in the Navy during World War II. They were married on May 13, 1945, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake after John returned on leave from action in the Pacific Theater.

Barb was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and board games, traveling, camping, her family, and many wonderful friendships. She and John belonged to two camping clubs and spent 16 years wintering in Alamo, Texas.

Barbara was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly and belonged to the Rosary Society and to St. Anne’s Guild. She was a member of the Manly Study Club, a former volunteer for RSVP, the Manly Care Center and Rehab Auxiliary and was active at the Manly Senior Center.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Steven Tesene, West Des Moines, Patricia (Gene) Bryant, St. Charles, Mo., Roy (Connie) Tesene, Garner, Kathy (Dennis) Kruger, Manly, and Deb (Perley) Holloway, Mason City; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sister, Florence Cusick, Gloucester, Mass., sisters in law, Betty Jacobson, Clear Lake and Beverly (Tom) Burnett, Northfield, Minn.; brothers in law, Bob (Lea) Roberts, Ridgeway, Colo., and David (Karen) Roberts, Falls Church, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter in law, Patricia Tesene; sister, Virginia; and grandson, Scott Christeson.
