IRENE R. NOREM

FERTILE, IOWA - Irene R. Norem, 93, of Vinton, formerly of Fertile, died Saturday (Nov. 24, 2001) at Vinton Lutheran Home.

Her funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fertile Lutheran Church, 602 W. Washington Street, Fertile, with the Rev. Merlin Norris officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery, Hanlontown.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N 4th Street, Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

Irene was born on August 7, 1908, at Thor, Iowa, a daughter of Jens B. and Emily (Maage) Sandvig. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a 1926 graduate of Eagle Grove High School, Eagle Grove, Iowa.

On Dec. 31, 1928, Irene married Bert A. Norem. They farmed in the Belmond-Alexander area until 1950, when they moved to a farm near Fertile, where Irene remained until 1996.

Irene is survived by four sons, Morris and his wife, JoAnn, Clear Lake, Bernard and his wife, Lois, Mason City, Kenneth and his wife, Sandy, Greeley, Colo., and Richard and his wife, Patsy, Van Horne, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Georgia Norem, Clear Lake; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Larson, Burnsville, Minn., and Martha Carson, Forest City; and three brothers, Stanley Sandvig, Thor, John Sandvig, Humboldt, and Arthur Sandvig, Memphis, Tenn.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Bert in 1965; three sisters, Bertha Sandvig, Edith Saboe and Judith Hill; and one son, Clarence.
